A commemorative ceremony was held in Perm in honour of the anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad

81 years ago, Soviet troops won the battle of Stalingrad. In Russia, 2 February is the Day of Military Glory.

The laying ceremony was held at the monument to the Liberator Warrior in Rabochiy Settlement neighbourhood. Flowers were laid at the monument by participants of the Victory Volunteers movement. The commemorative ceremony was organized by the Perm Directorate with the support of the Department of Culture and Youth Policy of the Perm Administration.

The Battle of Stalingrad is one of the largest battles of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The battle began on 17 July 1942 and ended on 2 February 1943. By the nature of the fighting, the Battle of Stalingrad is divided into two periods: the defensive, which lasted from July 17 to November 18, 1942, the purpose of which was the defense of Stalingrad, and the offensive, which began on November 19, 1942 and ended on February 2, 1943 with the defeat of the grouping of German troops operating in the Stalingrad direction. The Battle of Stalingrad made a decisive contribution to the achievement of a fundamental turning point in the Great Patriotic War. The Soviet armed forces seized the strategic initiative and held it until the end of the war.

Two rifle divisions formed in the Molotov (Perm) region took part in the Battle of Stalingrad.
